Mid-March Madness
Today’s meeting touched on many different things going on and has given me some direction on where we should be going with some of the directory structuring. We decided to have an images and docs folder inside each folder that requires such and not have a central location for all docs and images. But we are going to structure web_dev in a more logical way by placing all non-web files (files that don’t go on the web) in a separate folder. I’ve delegated many tasks to others and some to myself:
- DJan and Steve: Sere Internal site needs to be checked and approved: https://test.www.sere.ucar.edu/internal
- DJan and Steve: Do we need the research_catalog under SERE http://www.sere.ucar.edu/research_catalog/
- DJan: CCB about page and the projects folder
- Steve: ISSE site needs to be checked and approved: http://test.www.isse.ucar.edu
- Miles and Steve: MySQL and Filemaker Pro compatibilities to be used with LAR?
- Miles and Steve: Web Site Survey
- Elizabeth: Figure out who needs access to which ISSE folders.
- Miles: Continue to organize web_dev as discussed. Start documenting everything.
- EVERYONE: Reach out to scientists and see if they have any talks to put up on youtube? UC Berkeley Example: http://www.youtube.com/ucberkeley
These are all the things in limbo that will hopefully get addressed as time goes on. DJan’s retirement is coming up, which puts some of her stuff under an unknown area but I’m sure they’ll eventually get done, but may take longer than normal.
Today I put the new location page into production. We are currently using a very simple captcha, which may still be open to spam, but we’ll see how things go. I’m going to add a few new categories to the ISSE homepage (workshops & Coloquia and Siminars & coffee talks), hopefully these will help the outreach of these two programs. I’m going to move ‘/centralasia’ and ‘/elnino’ under the wkshp folder on CCB. This move is an ongoing process… I might start to speed it up after things look like they are going well, but by making a slow process I’m making it easier for myself to make sure all the links are taken care of and that no one gets thrown off by the changes…
