SERE no more

So it appears that SERE (The Societal- Environmental Research and Education Laboratory) no longer exists. Technically I work for SERE and as an umbrella organization, I am responsible for the other 3 labs. So I really don't know where that leaves me in this organization. My boss and everyone else don't really know what that means for my job since I'm an outside contractor. Until someone knows I guess I'm going to come to work and collect a check with some work here and there. This isn't bad news though, at least not for me. I just recently took on a contractor position under my company name Protitude with the main campus group that does web sites called Webcom. My first project will be revamping the Math web site. If your interested in my project through this group, please tune into the webcom blog coming soon. It will be a great experience to do many different types of web sites for the University of Colorado at Boulder.

I haven't placed too many entries under UCAR recently as I have been pretty busy and/or lazy about adding any entries. In the past month or so I have presented drupal to the CMS committee and from the feedback I've received I think it's the frontrunner. Attached below is the handout from my talk. I have created some forms using JQuery to validate and show/hide certain elements depending on previous answers. This is the first time I have used JQuery to create a form and I have been very pleased with the results. The forms right now are just internal so I can't give direct links to them, but I will provide a few links to resources I used in the process.

  1. Pop-up calendar for form fields requiring dates
  2. Tabless forms since all of our forms weren't standards compliant I took the liberty to remove all tables, I originally tried using an article from alistapart but it used an old JQuery file and I didn't have time to re-write their code.

I also took on the liberty to create a flash file that gives a visual representation of where different types of proposals go. This is still in early stages, but may never get any more fleshed out with the recent news. Attached is the flash file since it's another internal site. This was supposed to help for managing SERE and giving everyone a better idea of how this stuff worked.

This is all just a quick overview of the past weeks. I was also told to do a calendar, which I was trying to get changed into just an events listing but now I don't think I'll have to worry about it for now since all the groups are moving under other umbrella organizations. I'll have a better idea of what my job is next week if it still exists.
