Old School

So in a continuing process, I sent several links to CCB to go through and tell me what they are and why they are the way that they are. Which for most of them they are there for a reason and she could tell me why, but lots of them are very dated and for the most part could be rolled into some type of archival system. For the most part we are never going to do away with these sites as they are, but we agreed today to make some sort of hub or page that pulls them together on the main site.

Drupal Adventures Continue

Today I started further down the Drupal Rabbit hole. I brushed up the SERE drupal site by placing all scripts and css images in the theme folder. I've done a mass upload for any images that I think should go on the site and that way it's categorized and ready to go in image assist. So far I placed people and logos up, but I'm sure I'll have to further categorize and upload images as I get going.

Case Sensitive

So it turns out that I screwed up the LAR by downloading it off of the web and then uploading it again. For some reason this seems to drop all of the uppercase letters thereby messing up any links and images that are referred with an uppercase letter. I tested out the same scenario on my laptop and it appears that there is no such problem, so I'm going to try to get Erin to upgrade winSCP tomorrow to see if I can solve that problem.

The PHP Switch

Last Friday we had a meeting and made a few decisions for the future of this site. First of all we are doing away with php, which is my first and foremost job right now. Second, we are pretty much set on using Drupal which is a more eventual solution. Third, we need to possibly redesign or revamp all the sites to have a more standard look and feel. To accomplish this I'll need to hold further meetings to begin to figure out and architect the information so it's logical and follows a standard.

Office Space

Today I'm trying to stay out of trouble but it seems my attempt to make a test drupal site, discussing why we are making the shanghai site so oddly different then the rest of the site, and attempt to start a drupal meeting all resulted in me getting in trouble. Which most of these are me try to take initiative and get things done, but it just seems to result in someone getting all up in arms.
Today I worked a bit on the Sere site:

  • Updated Staff page
  • New LAR page is live

Randomness

I fixed up CCB's Shanghai site by making it look a bit more like the rest of the CCB site, but I'm still dissatisfied with the disconnectedness of these website and I'm currently unsure how to resolve this issue. This page is supposed to be disconnected to CCB, but at the same time we are placing it under the CCB site and CCB is a big player in doing the work for the conference.
I also installed google analytics for all 4 sites and gave an access account to Scott

Styling

Today I wrote a quick what is drupal document trying to explain what drupal is in laymen terms, what is drupal below...

I sent this document to Djan and Scott asking them to meet me and discuss what drupal is and how it can help out our websites.

Postcard

Today I created a postcard to market the shanghai conference:

I'm currently downloading the asp files to my laptop to fix the character problems I've been having the past few days with the files I downloaded to my office computer. For some reason the characters are all correct on my laptop.

Drupalize it

I'm working on a drupal theme for the current site and thought I'd note some of the things I've been doing for future reference. First of all I've already solved this problem before but just had to look it up. The front page cuts the posts short if you don't tell it otherwise, so to fix this I placed the following tag at the end of the page so it would display in full:

<!--break-->

ASP ing

Today I updated and made the new top nav bar for the ASP pages live. This took lots of CSS code revamping and some of the images also needed to be revamped to look correct. I also corrected the blue line at the top of the page to look less choppy and rolled over the image fixes to all other sites. Scott has decided to stick with the side nav bar on the sub pages even though this is very repetitive.

I'm currently working on a drupal Ucar theme. So far it looks pretty close to the sere front page, but it still has a ways to go and I need to implement the menu correctly as well.
